We can’t wait to see you!

Join the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) on Thursday, August 1, 2024 as we celebrate the rich history of “The Philadelphia Sound.” This interactive program will explore Philadelphia music history spanning from the 1800s to the present day with a focus on jazz, soul, and hip-hop.

The AAMPlifying Black Philly Music event is a complete experience with live performances, interactive activities, snacks, a dive into Black Philly Music history, and, of course, access to our latest featured exhibition, Imprint: Dox Thrash Black Life, and American Culture.

This event, catering towards middle and high school students, will answer the question: Which Philadelphian is credited as America’s First Black pop star?
